Francesco Bearzatti Tinissima 4ET – Zorro

Jazz is the music of liberation, resistance to injustice, romance and adventure, sometimes of conflict. His true identity has always been double rather than single. Around the same time that early jazz thrilled audiences, readers were gasping for the adventures of a masked man named Zorro who had been remembered by the darkness of oppression to put things right, leaving each time his hallmark on the wall.

On the centenary of Zorro’s creation, saxophonist Francesco Bearzatti and his Tinissima Quartet present CAM JAZZ’s latest contribution to the vast and spectacular jazz scene. Zorro is a fabulous suite in which great cinematic themes, romantic interludes, wide landscapes and breathtaking pursuits are placed. If the cliché of jazz as a cinematic experience has ever had any meaning, well, this is it. Flanked by trumpeter Giovanni Falzone, bassist Danilo Gallo and drummer Zeno De Rossi, the saxophonist, who once declared, quoting Woody Guthrie, “this machine kills the fascists”, re-establishes a link between jazz and repairs injustice. But Zorro is not a lesson in politics, rather a pleasant and extremely touching journey through a landscape seen in a dream that we all secretly share.
